The museum dedicated to the history of Ukrainian medicine and pharmacy is located in Podil, not far from Florovsky Monastery. The first private pharmacy in Kyiv opened on this site as early as 1728. And the exhibits currently displayed in this museum were made according to original recipes from the century before last.
In addition to medicines, the collection features powder, perfume, ink, soap, and tooth powder — in the past, all of this could be purchased exclusively in pharmacies. For greater authenticity, the exhibition even includes a pharmacy ledger from 1834, which lists the former prices of goods.
In total, the collection contains over 2000 exhibits gathered from all over Ukraine. The tour of the pharmacy-museum includes a visit to the alchemist's laboratory located in the basement, a cell where people could be treated with both medicines and prayer, the pharmacist's office, where in those days he also worked as a doctor, as well as the healer's hut, where medicinal herbs hang from the ceiling.
