Rejans can undoubtedly be called a symbol of Russian Istanbul. This restaurant was founded back in 1920 by Russians fleeing Bolshevik repression. Over the nearly century-long existence of the establishment, the restaurant's owners changed repeatedly, rulers changed, times and morals changed, but day after day Rejans continued to serve its customers.
An interesting fact: when at the end of the 1970s a fire nearly destroyed the restaurant's historic building, the recognized expert in fashion history, Alexander Vasiliev, was invited to restore its interior.
Rejans kept operating despite everything and against all odds, even in the hardest times. Unfortunately, recently, by court order, the famous restaurant of Russian cuisine was closed. Until its last days, they baked sweet buns and pirozhki here, held traditional tea parties, served Russian cabbage soup, borscht, syrniki, blini, beef Stroganoff... However, most of the dishes still had a certain Eastern touch and only remotely resembled the Russian original. Be that as it may, with the closure of the historic restaurant, the Russian diaspora lost one of its favorite meeting places. Although, who knows, maybe it will one day reopen?
