This museum will be of interest to everyone who loves traveling. Here you will learn how the complex service system in hotels and food service establishments works, see what is included in the daily duties of hotel and restaurant staff and, probably, reassess your attitude toward the work of service personnel.
The museum of the hotel and restaurant industry presents the history of the development of this service sector in Finland magnificently, covering the period from the 19th century to the present day. Authentic furnishings from old hotels and miniature copies of hotels from the century before last, made with ideal precision, are astonishing. An imitation of hotel room furnishings - from a chamber pot under the bed and a porcelain washbasin to ultra-modern touch-sensitive faucets - is displayed in the corresponding exhibition.
A great many examples of antique utensils are collected here, both kitchenware and items from restaurant dining halls: exquisite silverware, porcelain and crystal tableware for table setting, copper saucepans, hand mixers. There is also an exhibition of modern restaurant tableware: whisks and strainers, shakers and absinthe spoons, a variety of glasses - almost every drink or cocktail requires special serving, and a bartender will never pour you whiskey into a shot glass or a cocktail into a wine glass.
After visiting this museum, you will know exactly how you should be served in a restaurant, how and in what kind of tableware certain dishes and drinks are served, how to behave properly in a hotel, and how to communicate with the staff. Besides, it will be useful for many people to realize what enormous work stands behind a beautifully prepared hotel room or a perfectly cooked and presented dish.
