Among jazz lovers, it is believed that the 'Storyville' jazz club in Helsinki is one of the best venues in Europe dedicated to this genre of music. Six days a week, some of the best jazz bands and performers from Finland and other countries perform live here, giving visitors the magical sounds of jazz, blues, funk, and soul.
The club 'Storyville' took its name from the birthplace of jazz – New Orleans. In this colorful, sultry city, where African American, Creole, and white communities once mixed, there was a district called Storyville. It was known for its red-light streets and the birth of jazz culture, which Black musicians began to play for the patrons of nightlife establishments. Storyville was demolished as early as the beginning of the 20th century, yet it managed to leave the world beautiful and soulful music born from the explosive mix of southern cultures.
'Storyville' in Helsinki gives its guests not only the pleasure of the sounds of jazz, but also an atmosphere that emphasizes the magnetism and passion of this music. Here you can sample Creole and Cajun dishes unusual for Finland – spicy, aromatic, and fiery, like jazz itself. The interior is decorated with antique posters; there is plenty of wood, wrought iron, and red brick here, while the pleasant semi-darkness allows you to relax and drift on the waves of music into a world of beauty.
