The Archive-Museum of Literature and Art of Ukraine was opened in 1966 and was housed in the building of the former Sofia Theological School-Bursa, closed in 1917. Today, it is also of interest as an example of Baroque civic architecture in Ukraine.
The museum collection includes more than 20 thousand exhibits, most of which are personal belongings of Ukrainian cultural figures. In essence, the entire collection is a series of their memorial studies. Among those honored with being memorialized in this museum are film director A. Dovzhenko, writers P. Panch, N. Rybak, M. Stelmakh, Yu. Smolych, A. Malyshko, and composer P. Maiboroda. Of particular interest to history lovers are the personal archives and the archives of the creative unions of various artists.
Incidentally, this institution also includes a branch in the village of Pliuty, in the Obukhiv district of Kyiv Oblast — the department "Literary and Artistic Pliuty," which used to be the museum of writer V. Vasilevskaya and playwright A. Korneichuk.
