As is well known, Holland has been famous for its cheeses since ancient times, and visitors to the country often turn their journey into a purely gastronomic one, enjoying various varieties of this product. Maasdam, Gouda, Edam, Leerdam, cheese with a red rind, with blue mold, made from goat's milk — the variety truly boggles the imagination!
Since the Middle Ages, specialized cheese markets have been common in the Netherlands. Today this tradition survives in some cities, while in Amsterdam it has evolved into a more modern one: cheese shops are opening here.
One of the most famous cheese shops in Amsterdam is Amsterdams Kaashuis, the main store of the Henry Willig chain. It is famous for dozens of varieties of the product, including cheese with spices, pesto, smoked cheese, sheep's cheese, and goat cheese. And each one can be tasted: the salespeople, who also serve as consultants, gladly slice the products they sell and are happy to tell visitors about how Dutch cheese is made.
