The appearance of this place, like some other sights of Barcelona, was timed to coincide with the 1888 World's Fair. Within the walls of the ancient fortress, Ciutadella Park was created, and one of its gems became the "Castle of the Three Dragons," named so not because the remains of these mythical creatures can be seen here, but because of the distinctive shape of the building itself.
During the World's Fair and for several years after it, it housed a restaurant, and now the zoological museum is located here. Inside, you can see various minerals, as well as stuffed birds, animals, reptiles, and even a mammoth skeleton.
But many tourists come here not for them at all. The guards like to say that every night in the museum inhuman screams can be heard. Perhaps these are the cries of the very animals whose stuffed bodies are displayed here. Local staff say that at night the exhibits come to life and wander through the halls. This undoubtedly stirs the imagination and greatly increases visitors' interest. Especially since during the museum's operation quite a few guards have changed, who supposedly cannot withstand this psychological attack.
It is said that the makeup artists of the acclaimed film "Pan's Labyrinth" walked through the halls of this museum in search of inspiration. Those who have seen it will surely appreciate how significantly this extraordinary museum influenced the overall style of Guillermo del Toro's film.
