Opened in 2001, the Szimpla bar gave rise to a whole series of so-called "ruin pubs." The owners of this drinking establishment did not decide to carry out any serious repairs in the half-ruined abandoned building, but approached its renovation very creatively - simply furnishing the space however they felt like it, and leaving hooligan graffiti on the walls, which any visitor can add their own to if they wish. The result is something slightly crazy and, without a doubt, iconic.
However, guests of the Szimpla bar should not worry about the degree of dilapidation: cosmetic repairs have still been done here, and there is no need to fear that at some fine moment one of the visitors will suddenly fall through to another floor while rocking on a chair.
People in the know advise going to Szimpla in the evening: then the place looks even more mysterious. Prices here are moderate; sometimes the evening program is enlivened by live music, group film screenings, and exhibitions. Your first visit to Szimpla should serve as a litmus test - if you fall in love with this place, it will be forever.
