There are always many tourists in Tallinn's Church Square. One of the main reasons people come here is, as you might guess, St. Mary's Church, also known as the Dome Cathedral. It is one of the oldest places of worship in the entire city. Back in 1219 (immediately after the Crusaders arrived on these lands), a small wooden chapel was built here. Since then, the building has been rebuilt many times, and it is believed that the last changes to the exterior of St. Mary's Church were made in 1779. Since then, the Dome Cathedral has remained relatively unchanged.
In addition, there are two buildings on Church Square that were quite significant in the past. The house where the relatives of the famous traveler and navigator Ferdinand Wrangel once lived. And also the building of the noble assembly, which now houses a public library. That is why another name for this square is "Ramatukogu" or "Library Square".
