Tallinna Linnateater is a wonderful place to come into contact with one of the oldest arts in a setting perfectly suited to it. Tallinn City Theater, founded relatively recently - in 1965, is nevertheless housed in an old medieval building on Lai Street. The theater has six halls and one open-air summer stage located literally around the corner from the main building. And one of the performance spaces is situated six meters underground! This triangular hall was originally intended only as a small room for actors under the stage. But since 1997 it has been used for theatrical productions.
Today at Tallinna Linnateater you can not only watch works of world classics, but also enjoy authentic Estonian drama. Actor and playwright Jaan Taate wrote the play «Crossing the Main Road» especially for this theater, and it turned out so successful that it was translated into English, German, Latvian, Russian, and Finnish.
