The name of the restaurant «Археон Гефсис» literally means «ancient tastes» and very clearly reflects the concept of the establishment. Everything here is aimed at reviving ancient dining traditions. Together with historians, the chefs studied dozens of ancient Greek cookbooks, excluded from the menu ingredients unknown at the time such as tomatoes, potatoes, and rice, and carefully selected recipes that would appeal to modern diners. As a result, the menu is based on simple but very tasty dishes such as fried meat with pea puree and vegetables.
It should be said that not only the recipes were recreated, but also the rituals that accompanied the meal. So there are no forks here (they were not used in antiquity) and no glassware. The food is served by young men and women in flowing tunics, and among the drinks you will find neither tea nor coffee nor sparkling water. The cost of a «historical lunch» is above average; moreover, most of the menu will most likely not appeal to children.
True fans of antiquity can take part in a «symposium» - a long meal before which guests' feet are washed and wreaths are placed on their heads. It is supposed to feast while reclining and strictly in male company, since such pleasure was not available to ancient Greek women. Naturally, advance booking is required.
