The restaurant «Герос ту Мориа» is located at the foot of the Acropolis, in the picturesque Plaka district. From the windows of the establishment, and especially from the outdoor tables, прекрасные views open up. Inside, musicians play Greek melodies, creating a colorful, warm, and relaxed atmosphere.
However, the secret of the restaurant's popularity is still not this. Superb dishes made from fresh fish and appetizing appetizers based on traditional Greek recipes — that is what makes people come back here again and again. Excellent food at moderate prices in the very heart of Athens appeals to both locals and tourists.
Interestingly, the tavern «Герос ту Мориа» received its name in honor of the hero of the Greek War of Independence, General Theodoros Kolokotronis, nicknamed the «Old Man of Morea». He was born in 1770 in Morea (the old name of the Peloponnese peninsula) into a family of bandit-klephts and from his youth fought for the overthrow of Ottoman rule in Greece. After the liberation revolution, he quickly made a political career and was even the vice-prime minister of the government with almost unlimited power; however, he just as quickly found himself in opposition again. Remaining a well-known and influential figure, he published the autobiographical book «Klepht and Warrior» about his life full of adventures and exploits.
