The Church of Saint John the Apostle is located in the very center of Tallinn - on Freedom Square. The building of this church, by the standards of the Old Town, began to be erected relatively recently - in 1862. The reason for its construction was that the old city Church of the Holy Spirit could no longer cope with the growing number of parishioners. That is why Tallinn needed a new church, and it was built by the whole community - setting aside disagreements, people of completely different nationalities and social classes worked side by side. And so, on December 17, 1867, the Church of John the Theologian was consecrated and solemnly opened to everyone.
It is impossible not to mention that this bright yellow church, so significant for the townspeople, built in the Neo-Gothic style, with a tall pointed spire and exquisite stained-glass windows, was nearly demolished in 1930 because it did not fit into the new city development plan. However, fortunately, the строгая и величественная Church of Saint John still stands in its original place to this day. The townspeople believe that their activity and the protection of their holy patron will help this building remain in Tallinn for many years, regardless of architectural plans and the ruling forces that come to power.
