This unusual museum was opened at a funeral home more than 40 years ago. The initiator of its creation was Christopher Torro, who worked as a manager at this agency. He foresaw that soon all funeral services in the city would be concentrated in one place; however, something had to be done with the vehicles. For 90 years, hearses served to accompany Barcelona residents on their final journey, but they had become significantly outdated, as more modern and comfortable models had appeared. Still, no one wanted to part with the old and beautiful carriages. Therefore, at Torro's suggestion, they were moved to a special hall set aside for the museum.
Today, a collection of antique funeral carriages is presented here, which were used in Barcelona as far back as the 18th-19th centuries. They were drawn by horses and driven by coachmen, and inside they were very richly decorated. In addition, here you can see mourning automobiles from different years: from the first Studebaker, which was used from the late 20s to the early 40s of the last century, to a luxury-class car from America - the Buick Riviera.
In total, the museum has assembled 19 exhibits, each of which is unique in its own way, and together they create the only collection of hearses in Europe.
