There are two Caixa Forum cultural centers in Spain - one is located in Barcelona, the second in Madrid, and this is the one we will discuss. The capital's Caixa Forum is located not far from the Prado Museum; however, it is no less interesting than its popular "neighbor."
This art center was created by the Swiss architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron on the grounds of an abandoned power plant built in the 1900s. During the restoration, the original facades were preserved, and the building's area was increased fivefold - to 10000 square meters.
Today, Caixa Forum is a modern center where lectures, concerts, conferences, and seminars are held. A permanent exhibition of contemporary art is open here, and since 1980, temporary exhibitions have also been held.
The hallmark of the cultural center is its vertical garden. The huge wall adjoining the center building is covered with more than 15 thousand plants of 250 species.
It happens that people come to see this work by the French artist and botanist Patrick Blanc almost more often than the exhibitions of the art center itself.
