This collection was opened at the Sochi History Museum in 2010. It is now already called the “Olympic museum,” because most of the exhibits are connected in one way or another with the Olympics (both past ones and the 2014 Games).
This is where the rhythmic gymnastics ball of two-time Olympic champion Evgenia Kanaeva is kept, with her autograph, as well as a basketball with the autographs of famous Russia national team basketball players, and the Olympic and Paralympic flags that the mayor of Sochi received after the Vancouver Olympics. Here you can see the “Contract for Holding the XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Games in Sochi 2014” and even the very pen with which it was signed. In total, there are more than 300 exhibits. By the way, one of the Olympic torches that was carried across all of Russia will be transferred here.
As recently as four years ago, visitors to the Sports Glory Museum could see how the resort city of Sochi would change ahead of the Winter Games. This could be judged from the models of the Olympic venues of the coastal and mountain clusters. These were the very models that once amazed the IOC members and were put on public display in Vancouver. These are not just cardboard little houses glued to a display board - this is a small city, complete with lighting and sound effects.
