Istanbul is an Eastern fairy tale, a city of contrasts, a city of two continents, a city of a thousand mosques... And also, Istanbul is, of course, a city of bazaars. And like any seaside place, it has its own fish market - Balık Pazarı. However, it is worth noting that it is located not on the waterfront, as is usually the case, but in the Beyoglu district, not far from Galatasaray Lyceum.
Balık Pazarı consists of several canopies with fish displays. Squid, garfish, shrimp, sea bream, salmon, and even the bizarre monkfish - the variety of this fish market never ceases to amaze! The locals themselves most often cook the fish bought here at home, while tourists often take it to the restaurant next door to Balık Pazarı - there it will be served to you in the best possible way.
A small tip: it is better to buy fish in the morning, because by evening, especially on hot and sultry days, there is a high chance of buying seafood that is a bit off. Despite the fact that the fishermen constantly sprinkle the fish with water, their catch is still highly perishable.
