This is the only circus in Central Europe built of stone. It opened in 1891, but almost 70 years later the original building was demolished and a new one was built in its place. Today it still hosts regular performances, although another major renovation is planned for the near future.
The circus building seats 1,850 spectators. Almost every show plays to a full house, and many people even travel in from other cities just to see the performance. Some acts are every bit as spectacular as the numbers in the world-famous Cirque du Soleil. The artists have won numerous awards and earned recognition around the globe. For example, a Chinese troupe of 12 young acrobats has taken home many prizes not only in Hungary, but abroad as well.
Children, meanwhile, adore the clown Don Christian. He is one of the most popular clowns in Europe! He can make absolutely anyone laugh, and his routines are so charming and original that it is impossible to hold back your emotions.
During the performance of the famous Brazilian “Spider-Man” – Alessio Fochesato (also known as “Super Silva”) – the audience practically forgets to breathe as they watch him climb upside down to a height of 14 meters without any safety harness.
