The highest waterfalls in Krasnodar Krai — the Gebeus or Tesheb Waterfalls — are located 60 kilometers from Gelendzhik. You can get there on one of the many excursions from the city or on your own by making your way to the village of Teshebs.
From the twin-peaked Mount Gebeus, the swift Teshebs River rushes down, which in translation from Adyghe means "Golden River." Among the locals, there is a legend that gold sand can be found in the waters of this river. True, no one has found it yet, but just in case, keep an eye out — what if you are the one who gets lucky?
Along a stretch about a kilometer long, the waters of the Teshebs River have created three large waterfalls: Stremitelny, Poyasok, and the small but very colorful Starik Waterfall. Picturesque forest paths lead to the cascades, with footbridges and stairways on the mountain slopes. You can scramble up to the start of one of the waterfalls via a steep ladder built right into the rock, and from there watch the falling water and myriads of spray. Don’t want to climb — take a swim in the stone basin bowl formed by the waterfalls over hundreds of years.
On the way to the waterfalls, you will find small cafes right in the forest, gazebos for picnics, and stalls with local souvenirs. Or you can simply walk through the forest, enjoying the crystal-clear mountain air and the humidity of the subtropics.
