The Gelendzhik Museum of History and Local Lore tells about the local nature, history, and culture. The museum includes three branches: an exhibition dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, the house-museum of writer V.G. Korolenko, and a unique natural landmark - the Zhane River Valley.
The museum's main collection is housed in a classical building on the embankment. More than 76 thousand exhibits from the fields of ethnography, archaeology, and natural history are gathered here. The rich nature of the mountains and the Black Sea coast gave rise to unique plants and rare animals, and the long history of civilization in this region has provided the museum with many interesting finds.
One of the mysteries of these places is the stone dolmens, built by ancient people 5-7 thousand years ago. In the museum's archaeological department, you will learn everything that science knows about the Gelendzhik dolmens. There are also finds from these mysterious structures here: objects that ancient people placed in the grave during burial, hoping that these things would help the deceased in the afterlife.
The museum's historical collection includes an Attic helmet from the time of Ancient Greece. Many finds belonged to the indigenous people of these places - the Adygs. Weapons, chain mail made of thousands of tiny rings, and traditional attire revive the images of the warlike highlanders of past centuries, while household items, jewelry, and clothing with gold embroidery give an idea of their life.
