The western side of Cathedral Square of the Троице-Сергиевой лавры is closed off by a long building known as the Казначейский корпус. This building, initially two stories tall, was built in 1743, but acquired its final appearance after several remodelings and the addition of a third floor in 1859.
Originally, as the name suggests, the monastery treasury was located here, and various financial affairs were conducted. There were also monks' cells, the deed chamber, and cathedral chambers here. In essence, several buildings of different purposes ended up being incorporated into the Казначейский корпус.
An earlier structure can also be included here – храм Преподобных Зосимы и Савватия with the Больничными палатами, forming a unified architectural ensemble with the nearby buildings. The Казначейский корпус looks much more modern against the backdrop of the other structures of the Троице-Сергиевой лавры.
Since 1919, communal apartments were located in the building, which inevitably affected the preservation of the interiors. Later there was a museum here, and now, after labor-intensive and lengthy restoration work, the first floor is occupied by the monastery administration and other official services, while the second and third floors are given over to monks' cells.
