In Sergiev Posad, a church dedicated to the miraculous appearance of the Mother of God to Venerable Sergius of Radonezh has recently appeared. It was founded at a boarding school for deafblind children, the only one in Russia. Significant financial and organizational support during its construction was provided by S.A. Obozov, генеральный директор OAO «Концерн Росэнергоатом». Construction of the church was begun by the architect hierodeacon Anthony, and later, by 2011, it was completed by architect V.N. Izhikov.
The church project, developed in 2005, provided for the most comfortable possible conditions for children deprived of sight and hearing. Many things in the interiors are arranged so that they can be explored by touch, most of the icons are carved and three-dimensional, and almost all objects have descriptions in Braille. Convenient ramps have been installed for those who use wheelchairs.
But the church in honor of the appearance of the Mother of God to Venerable Sergius of Radonezh is visited not only by children with disabilities, but also by ordinary laypeople. Many holy relics and beautiful icons are kept here, and the atmosphere in this place is pleasant and peaceful.
The architectural style of the church recalls the medieval architecture of Pskov masters. The outlines of the white building are strict and laconic, the church is crowned with a rather large gold-colored dome, and a smaller dome adorns the bell tower.
