At the top of Malabar Hill, next to the luxurious mansions of local rich people and celebrities, there is a picturesque park for relaxation and entertainment. It bears the name of Kamala Nehru, in honor of the wife of Jawaharlal Nehru, who died at the age of 37. The opening of the park, with an area of more than 3000 square meters, took place in 1952.
The main visitors to Kamala Nehru Park are families with children: adults can relax peacefully here in the shade of the trees and chat, while children prefer to run, jump, and play on specially equipped playgrounds. The young visitors especially love the house in the form of a giant shoe, a very unusual and original structure.
The park has many shrubs and trees, and beautiful flower beds and floral arrangements are laid out everywhere. The climate here is less hot than the city average, because Malabar Hill has an elevation of 50 meters and is the highest point in Mumbai, which favors a light breeze and relative coolness.
Despite the fact that there is no entrance fee, the park grounds are very well maintained, everything is neatly cleaned, and the lawns are trimmed. In the middle of one of the flower beds stands a monument depicting the coat of arms of India in 3D format, three lions standing back to back on top of the capital.
The park can be considered one of the best observation points in Mumbai, offering a magnificent view of the Marine Drive waterfront and Back Bay.
