At Gorai Beach, located in the north-west of Mumbai, you can have a pretty good time if you are not a big fan of swimming. The water here is considered not quite suitable for swimming, although it is cleaner than at the beaches located closer to the city center. Nevertheless, for those who prefer active recreation, local companies offer water sports – windsurfing, kitesurfing and kayaking.
The beach is located near a modest fishing village, there are few tourists here, and those who do make it here enjoy picnics on the sand under palm trees and in the evenings admire the wonderful views of the fading sunset. It is worth bearing in mind that the locals are not very concerned with creating a romantic atmosphere, and you can often see them racing along the beach in jeeps and motorcycles at any time of day.
The ubiquitous food vendors and stallholders sell frozen ice "baraf golas," spicy "chana masala," crispy "panipuri" and other local fast food here. You can also hire a horse or a camel for a ride along the beach. Not far from Gorai is the grand amusement park “Essel World”, where you can get your adrenaline pumping on a variety of extreme rides.
