The beautiful Laem Sor Pagoda is known throughout Thailand for its flawless beauty and exquisite decoration. This is a classic Buddhist place of worship, also called a "chedi." The pagoda is located near the temple of the same name, in the southern part of Samui Island, at the end of Bang Kao Beach.
Laem Sor Pagoda is covered with countless tiny golden plates that create a unique glow by reflecting the sun's rays. Without a doubt, this is a magnificent example of Thai religious architecture, well worth a visit.
The pagoda is clearly visible even from afar, sparkling with its golden spires against the blue sky. Green vegetation and palm trees spread all around, and the sea gently laps nearby - the picture is simply perfect.
The entrance to the pagoda is guarded by two demonic fanged warriors. Presumably, they are meant to look frightening, but the dramatic effect is somewhat lost because of their невероятной психоделической расцветки: Thai people's love of bright colors and their unexpected combinations can sometimes be bewildering.
The first documented mentions of the pagoda and temple appear around the beginning of the 19th century. They say that the remains of one of Thailand's legendary monks named Pra Kru Pibon Tammasarn once rested in these places. Later, the temple was abandoned and partially destroyed, but thanks to the efforts of local residents it was restored and opened its doors to worshippers in 1974.
