The story of the creation of Magic Buddha Garden is about how the hands of just one hardworking man created a sight of enchanting beauty.
The surroundings of the mountain peak Kao Yai on Samui enchant with their lush vegetation and winding mountain rivers and streams – perhaps this is what inspired the local farmer Nim Thongsuk, who at the age of 77 decided to take up sculpture and began carving various mythological figures out of stone.
He continued his work until a very old age, and the result was astounding – an entire garden of sculptures depicting both ordinary people and animals, as well as various deities. After the sculptor's death, he was buried together with his wife in Magic Buddha Garden. It is worth mentioning that Mr. Nim was a respected figure in the region, although many did not know about his hobby.
In the garden, all the figures are arranged according to ancient Buddhist teachings. In the shade of the trees, you can see incredible group stone compositions, birds, animals, demons, and people. Most of the statues are, of course, dedicated to Buddha. Some sculptures are so hidden under the foliage that they are difficult to make out. The atmosphere in the garden is unique – wild jungle, a waterfall, and many mysterious creatures all around.
