Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1968. The second largest in Goa, it stretches across an area of 86 square kilometers along the Talpona River. Thanks to it, such lush vegetation has formed here: towering trees whose canopies are so dense that sunlight cannot penetrate through them.
Exotic plants in the jungle form many tiers. To admire them, 18-meter-high stairways and several observation towers are provided. Although, probably, not every tourist will dare to embark on such an extreme journey.
On one of the trees, a treehouse has been set up, offering a view of the watering hole, where you are guaranteed to see animals. Gazelles and bears, hyenas and porcupines, bison and leopards - visitors to the sanctuary below do not often get to encounter these animals. Rare birds and insects also live here, and they too are best observed from above.
The pedestrian area is represented by eight well-kept paved paths ranging from 500 to 5000 meters in length. In addition to getting acquainted with nature, an interesting historical excursion to an ancient 16th-century watchtower, which is also located within the park, awaits you.
In this unique sanctuary, you can even stay overnight: a complex with all the necessary amenities has been built here for tourists.
