Candolim Beach has unofficially earned the status of the best beach in Goa among tourists. The wide shoreline and clean soft sand allow you to feel complete unity with nature. That is probably why there are so many followers of various spiritual practices here.
The beach has only one downside: you must be prepared for inflated prices. The place is upscale, and you have to pay for that. But, for example, the sun loungers here are provided free of charge by the cafes where you buy something. In addition, high competition forces catering workers to come up with all kinds of promotions and discounts. Keep in mind that the best seafood on the entire coast is here!
When you get tired of delicacies, cocktails, and lazy relaxation, choose something from the beach entertainment to suit your taste. In addition to various sports, here you can go on an excursion to the place where dolphins live or try parasailing (flying on a parachute behind a boat). In the evenings, tourists are taken out on boats to watch the picturesque sunset.
For a long time, Candolim's calling card was a barge run aground, which was mistakenly called "Moscow 211." In fact, the inscription was made by tourists, and the vessel, which once carried ore, was called "River Princess." A few years ago, the barge was removed from the shore.
If we talk about the history of the place, there used to be a simple peasant village here. It was the first to be converted to Christianity by the Portuguese, but it was also the first to rise up against them at the end of the 18th century. The name of the beach translates in a far from romantic way: it comes from the word "drain" and recalls the first local farmers who drained the swamps here.
