Oddly enough, Goa, this center of Buddhist culture, also has its own Christian shrines. A museum unique in all of Asia is located in the Convent of Saint Monica in the city of Old Goa. It was created with donations from non-religious organizations and has been open to visitors since 1994
It displays treasures not typical of India and associated mainly with the period of the conquest wars of Christian Portugal. In fact, the foundation of this country was the initiator of creating such a repository. Most of the items in the exhibition date from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
Initially, the museum was located at a seminary near the city of Margao, but it drew no visitors, and the authorities decided to move it. Thanks to careful handling, unique antiques and valuables have been preserved here. Although, of course, for believers these are, first and foremost, spiritual shrines rather than material objects. Communion cups, antique chests, gold rosaries, vessels for incense - the history of Christianity in Goa can be studied through all these exhibits.
