Brahma Vihara Ashrama is the only Buddhist temple complex in Bali, located a few kilometers from Lovina, a resort on the northern coast of Bali.
The temple and monastery buildings, built in the 1970s and surrounded on all sides by green hills, are open to all visitors – tourists, researchers, and local residents. The monastery is headed by one of Bali's few Buddhist monks, Bhikkhu Giri Rakshita, a Brahmin from the Banjar ethnic group.
The Buddhist monastery, as expected, is distinguished by its austere and unobtrusive forms. The architecture of the buildings is a blend of Balinese style with motifs borrowed from mainland Southeast Asia. The complex offers stunning panoramic views of the sea and coast.
In addition to the temple complex, there are several residential buildings here, and for those who wish to stay overnight near the monastery and learn more about the monks' way of life, there is a small hotel nearby.
Not far to the west of the monastery are the Banjar hot springs at Tega. True, the water temperature here is rather moderate – up to 38 degrees, but this does not reduce the steady flow of visitors to the springs.
