Three small islands: Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno were created by generous Indonesian nature for the most heavenly, the laziest, and most carefree vacation. These are resorts for those who expect neither hikes, nor exhausting excursions, nor noisy streets and discos from their holiday. Only tropical sun, a bottomless sky, and a fantastically beautiful sea with equally fantastic scarlet sunsets.
The Gili Islands have an idyllic atmosphere; there is no transport here except bicycles and horses, and it is not needed anyway - any of the islands can be walked around on foot. There is little civilization here, but that is only a plus, because people come here to lie lazily by the sea, taking a break from hustle, news, and the achievements of technological progress.
The largest of the little Gilis is Trawangan - considered the most youthful, noisy, and party-oriented among the islands. Trawangan is also famous for its tolerant attitude toward soft drugs: weed and magic mushrooms are offered right in the bars here, but if you do not know much about them, it is better not to take the risk.
Gili Air is also called Coral Island because it is surrounded by luxurious coral reefs. White, red, and blue coral branches are washed onto the beaches by the surf; tourists love collecting them, and local residents make stunning souvenirs out of them. It is an ideal place for snorkeling and diving - schools of little fish in every possible shade dart happily among the colorful reefs, while huge sea turtles drift past unhurriedly.
Gili Meno is the smallest and quietest of the islands. A wonderful place for a romantic trip, for reflecting on the meaning of life, or for complete relaxation and switching your mind off.
