A protected area stretching across 45 square kilometers attracts nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts. Beaches with snow-white sand and bays with azure water, dense greenery of exotic plants, mountain peaks, and coastal cliffs preserve nature's pristine beauty.
Sai Kung East Country Park occupies most of the Sai Kung Peninsula. The park is home to astonishing natural and man-made wonders. For example, the highland water reservoir, which looks like a stunningly beautiful natural mountain lake, was created in 1978.
Combining natural barriers and dams built by people, the Hong Kong authorities constructed the largest freshwater reservoir designed to solve water supply problems.
On the eastern side of the reservoir, you can see unique formations of volcanic tuff - walls formed by cooled magma in the shape of numerous hexagonal columns. This natural wonder is called a "waterfall frozen in stone," and it is several hundred million years old.
Many hiking trails of varying difficulty run through the protected area. You can take a walk along a scenic route to one of the coves with прекрасными beaches or to an equipped campsite.
