We do not recommend doing what these two girls, frozen in a sculptural composition in the center of Hanoi, are doing. Durian is an exotic fruit that has a disgusting smell but a very pleasant taste. It stinks so terribly that in some regions, for example in Malaysia, it is even forbidden to eat it in public places. They say that this smell resembles a mixture of rotten meat and sewage... Nevertheless, the monument to Vietnamese beauties inhaling the aromas of this extravagant fruit looks quite graceful :)
"The Smell of Durian" often makes it into various rankings of the world's most absurd sculptures. Although, if you do not know about the peculiar properties of durian, the monument does not seem especially strange or eccentric; on the contrary, it is quite realistic and charming in its own way.
