This restaurant has remained true to its style for several decades now, and every little detail in it - from the tableware and tablecloths to the interior details - is a true work of art. The famous elite restaurant 'Savoy' opened its doors in Helsinki on June 3, 1937. At that time, an article appeared in the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat under the headline "Restaurant Coziness Above the Rooftops of Helsinki," and, very conveniently, the opening of the establishment was preceded by the repeal of Prohibition in Finland.
The interior design was created by Aino Aalto, whose goal was to create an atmosphere of coziness and comfort combined with prestige and elegance. Aalto handled her task superbly; her solutions are still considered unsurpassed in their thoughtfulness.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the national idea was very strong in Finland, so most of the dishes here represented Finnish cuisine. Later, the restaurant's menu changed, but the highest quality of cooking always remained unchanged.
It is worth noting that this restaurant is far from being for everyone - it is easy to spend 500 euros or more on a single dinner. Therefore, its main visitors are politicians, businessmen, celebrities, and other affluent patrons. Marshal Carl Gustaf Mannerheim himself was a regular at 'Savoy', and his favorite cocktail "Ryypy" is still on the menu.
