The royal museum, which covers the centuries-old history of the Wittelsbach dynasty, opened its doors to visitors in 2011. This event was timed to coincide with the 125th anniversary of the death of Ludwig II, who, thanks to his love of building luxurious castles, went down in history under the nickname the "fairy-tale king."
The idea of creating the museum belonged to the last Duke of Bavaria, Franz, who quite reasonably believed that the public was insufficiently informed about the real history of his family. And the place chosen to house the collection was truly royal: previously, here on the shore of an alpine lake, honored guests of the ruling dynasty stayed overnight after hunting.
On an area of 1200 sq.m, in the former Alpenrose hotel, built according to the design of the famous German architect Volker Staab, visitors are invited to ознакомиться with a unique collection dedicated to the Bavarian rulers. The museum contains 160 exhibits provided by the private Wittelsbach Foundation. These are interior items, exquisite tableware, clothing, and jewelry. From the Middle Ages to the present day, the entire history of the kings, previously inaccessible, can now be seen by anyone who wishes.
