The Museum of Royal Carriages is located on the grounds of the luxurious Nymphenburg palace complex, the summer residence of the kings of the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen dynasty, deservedly called the Munich Versailles. The royal stables are located in the southern wing of the palace, and it was there that it was decided to establish a museum dedicated to the means of transport that preceded the age of automobiles. It opened in 1952, and in 1986 the exhibition was реконструирована and redesigned.
The museum's collection includes various examples from Germany, France, and England. You will be able to thoroughly explore the development of carriages from the 17th to the 19th century. Many of them are true works of art, decorated with golden stucco, sculptural elements, and richly and skillfully painted wooden parts. Every element of the carriage, from the wheel to the interior, is made with such delicacy and craftsmanship that it is hard to imagine how one could ride this masterpiece along the bumpy roads of past centuries.
However, not only luxurious carriages are displayed here, but also strollers, gigs, and even sledges used for everyday travel. So you can get quite a complete picture of the means of transport of the past.
