A Trip to Dubai
Dubai is a fantastic city where so much money is concentrated that people turn their boldest – sometimes wild, but always futuristic – ideas and projects into reality. How else can you explain a ski resort and a giant aquarium in the middle of the Arabian desert, the world’s tallest skyscraper, an entire gallery of artificial islands, and countless other unofficial “wonders of the world” that are far ahead of their time?
It is an astonishing oasis city that, just half a century ago, looked more like a modest Bedouin settlement. Locals made their living from pearl diving, and that was their only source of income – until even that dried up once Japan learned how to cultivate artificial pearls. But then the incredible happened – oil was discovered in the Emirates. Today Dubai is the richest city in the Middle East, where gold bars are sold from vending machines like ordinary soda. Shopping lovers have long jokingly decoded its name as “Do Buy.” Magnificent, one of a kind, and “the most” in every way – that is Dubai!
