The Vienna Ferris Wheel is located in the Prater amusement park. It is one of the most popular observation points and allows you to see the city from a bird's-eye view, or, to be more precise, from a height of 60 meters.
This Ferris wheel was built more than a century ago and is one of the oldest in the world. Along with the Vienna Opera and St. Stephen's Cathedral, it has long been a symbol of the city. This attraction was created by the English engineer Walter Basset, especially for the jubilee of Emperor Franz Joseph I's reign. Since then, a lot has happened: in 1914 a horsewoman rode atop one of the cabins on horseback, in 1944 the wheel was bombed by enemy aircraft, but in 1947 it resumed operation.
Each cabin has its own number, always an even one, to avoid the number 13. Some of them are VIP class. By prior arrangement, you can organize a festive lunch or a romantic dinner for yourself, friends, or loved ones. Some even celebrate their own wedding here! Meanwhile, renting a special "luxury" class cabin on the Ferris wheel costs more than 200 euros per hour.
By the way, in Prater Park there is another Ferris wheel besides the old one. It is modern, taller and faster, but it does not convey the impressive feeling of touching the past.
