This protected area is a national park, administered by the state, and was created in order to preserve the priceless natural heritage of Arabia amid the global modernization and urbanization of the UAE.
This reserve was established recently, in 2003, but it is highly popular with tourists and local residents. The park covers an area of 225 sq km, which equals 5% of the total area of the emirate of Dubai. Excursions to the desert reserve most often take place in off-road vehicles, and once you arrive at the site itself, you can ride across the dunes and on the ships of the desert - camels.
The Dubai reserve is home to many animals, including completely unique and endangered species, for example the houbara bustard or the scimitar-horned antelope - oryx.
In the national park, you can choose absolutely any type of leisure activity: an eco-tour, a guided tour, or a safari. Specialists from all over the world work at the reserve - ecologists and biologists, who sometimes even involve tourists in their research.
