From the historic district of Bar Dubai to Deira, across Dubai Creek, you can get there in three ways: via one of the four bridges, by water taxi abra, or through the underwater Al Shindagha Tunnel.
The latter, at the time of its opening in 1975, was considered a true engineering marvel. The architects and builders were given a difficult task: since the Arab Emirates had been unexpectedly overtaken by industrialization and a sudden increase in the number of vehicles, it was necessary to ease the flow of cars with the help of an underwater tunnel. As we can see today, the specialists handled their task excellently. And thanks to annual renovations and preventive maintenance, the life of the tunnel has been extended for another couple of decades.
