“Kanela Konditoreja” is a cozy cafe-pastry shop in the center of Riga, where you can relax with friends, have coffee with pastries, or read a book or newspaper alone.
It is easy to find this charming place; it is located on Dzirnavu Street in one of Riga’s historic architectural complexes – Berga Bazars. Once, at the beginning of the XX century, this was one of the centers of the city’s cultural and commercial life, built by Kristaps Bergs according to the design of architect Konstantins Pekšēns. An entire shopping quarter made on the principle of an eastern bazaar, where, in addition to shops, there were also residential apartments.
Berga Bazars has been under restoration since 1993, with all fragments being reconstructed with perfect historical accuracy.
“Kanela Konditoreja” or “Cinnamon Confectionery” is a lovely place with refined cuisine and delicious sweets. The cafe’s main specialty is desserts from all over the world: Vienna’s Sachertorte, American cheesecakes, and 60 more kinds of cakes. In addition, “Kanela Konditoreja” makes about 30 types of small baked goods: cookies from its own recipes, tiny violet pastries, fabulous French macarons, and freshly baked crispy croissants. All of this is incredibly delicious with the signature cinnamon tea or coffee. The menu also includes tasty light salads and puff pies with feta or spinach, so it is quite hard to leave here hungry.
