On Andrejsala Island, in the large building of a former customs warehouse, the Latvian Museum of Naive Art has been located for several years now. This is the country's first private museum, which received state accreditation in 2007.
The collection features a wonderful selection of works by Latvian artists. All the paintings, sculptures, and installations deserve to be seen. In addition to original works of art, the exhibition contains about 1000 high-quality photocopies.
The atmosphere in the museum is always full of positivity and fun: the paintings evoke a wide range of emotions, and it is impossible here to simply contemplate the canvases and sculptures calmly – you immediately want to share the mood with the whole world and be sure to take a piece of kindness and warmth with you, beyond the boundaries of this unique little world of primitivism.
Here you can see the amazing compositions of Zanis Bulavs, the surreal paintings of Ilze Zemzare, the canvases of Rakhmail Yakrin, and many others.
The main goal of the exhibition, according to the museum's organizers, is the desire to convey to all visitors the value of naive art, the uniqueness of its motifs, and the sincerity and openness that go directly from the artist to the viewer, without any barriers or conventions.
