There is a curious place in Riga: a huge two-story wooden log house, and next to it a beautiful windmill that, like a lighthouse, beckons from afar. This is not a museum of antiquities, as it may seem at first glance, but a thoroughly modern building - the recreation and entertainment center "LIDO," located on Krasta Street.
Opened in 1999, "LIDO" instantly became hugely popular with both locals and tourists, and for Riga it is now a kind of calling card - an attraction that every visitor should see.
A unique entertainment complex spreads across an area of five hectares. There is an amusement park, a bistro, restaurants, a beer hall, and a pastry shop here. Interestingly, the entire structure is made of wood, which adds a special exotic charm and appeal.
In the bistros and restaurants, you can grab a quick and tasty bite; entertainers also work here, not letting visitors get bored for a minute. There is a very large selection of food and drinks, mostly national cuisine, and everything is inexpensive and delicious. It is also important that service in many of the establishments is arranged on a buffet basis. Rest assured - you will not leave here hungry.
For beer lovers, there is a "beer cellar," where you can try an excellent locally produced brew or buy beer to go. While parents are busy, children can stay in the playroom under the supervision of caregivers.
It is especially wonderful at "LIDO" during the New Year holidays: ice sculptures, cheerful events, luxurious illuminations, and decorations. Everything is like a fairy tale, yet quite real and accessible.
