Bagatti Valsecchi Museum is located practically in the very center of Milan, in the so-called “Fashion Quadrilateral.” Formally, this building became a museum only in 1974. It was then that the descendants of the Bagatti Valsecchi family transferred the house into the ownership of the city so that the authorities could create a luxurious museum there, glorifying the famous family name.
Until that time, the building had the status of an ancestral “nest,” where the large Bagatti Valsecchi family lived. The house was built by the brothers Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi in the XIX century. Even for that era, their home looked quite unusual: the lavish Baroque-style decor was created according to traditional Italian canons of the XVI century. Is it any wonder that even our contemporaries are amazed when they discover such a masterpiece in the modern part of Milan?
The two symmetrical parts of the house are connected by an annex decorated with openwork arch openings and a neat little balcony.
Inside the Bagatti Valsecchi house-museum there are numerous exhibitions that allow visitors to appreciate as fully as possible sculptural monuments and paintings by Italian masters. In addition, a rich collection of weapons from various eras is presented here. Importantly, the exhibited items harmonize well with the decor of the halls, where “authentic” Baroque elements from the previous century and the century before that prevail.
