This amazing garden is located in the very center of Milan, not far from the famous Brera Palace. Here, in the shade of unique plants and trees, including the oldest ginkgo tree in Europe, you can escape the bustle of the city and enjoy the beauty of nature. The garden covers an area of 5000 square meters.
After the suppression of the Jesuit order, which owned the Brera complex in the 17th century, it passed into the hands of the Austrian government. In 1774, on the आदेश of Empress Maria Theresa, a botanical garden was laid out on the grounds of the complex. Its design was worked on by architect Giuseppe Piermarini, the author of the famous La Scala theater.
The garden has survived to this day exactly as Piermarini created it: with two small pools and flower beds, where you can even see a collection of medicinal herbs.
During Napoleon's rule, exotic plants were in fashion in Europe, and many of them were planted in this garden.
Today, the Brera Botanical Garden is part of the University of Milan.
