The stronghold of Budapest's contemporary culture is housed in the building of a former transformer station. The area of Trafó Gallery is 1200 sq. m. The House of Contemporary Art owes its appearance to the city council, which owns the gallery space. It opened in 1998. Today, in addition to the gallery, this building also houses a performance hall, a rehearsal studio, a restaurant, and a club.
