This museum appeared in Barcelona quite recently; it is not even 10 years old yet. Unlike the building it occupies - these are former warehouses preserved from the Old Port. They are also often called Palau de Mar.
The area of the museum's exhibition halls is 4000 sq. m. On this vast territory there are several sections devoted to different periods in the life of Catalonia. For example, the "Roots" section introduces visitors to the life of ancient humans in this region during the Paleolithic era. Incidentally, the remains of "homo erectus," about 450000 years old, were found precisely in Tautavel.
The "Birth of the Nation" section tells how the counties of Catalonia were formed after the Muslim conquest, as well as how the Visigothic Kingdom, the state of Al-Andalus, and Occitania were later founded in this territory.
"Our Sea" is an exhibition dedicated to the Spanish army and navy of the 13th century. It was then that Jaume I conquered Mallorca and Valencia, which determined the further course of the region's development up to the 15th century.
No less interesting is the exhibition devoted to the times when the plague raged in Spain, causing a huge population decline, famine, and decline.
A separate period of history began when electricity appeared, and transport, factories, and plants began to run on steam engines. Certain exhibitions are also devoted to this.
