L'Opera is one of the oldest establishments in Barcelona. The cafe opened back in 1920, but its interior remains unchanged to this day. Here are still the same simple wooden tables covered with varnish, wall panels and mirrors in elegant frames, waiters dressed in black and white, antique cabinets displaying various curious drinks. Cafes like this have their own inexpressible atmosphere, which is loved not only by locals but also by visitors.
Cafe de l'Opera is located near the Liceu Theatre, so in the old days it was mainly the aristocracy that gathered here. People came to have a cup of coffee before a performance or, on the contrary, discussed the theatrical productions they had just seen over a glass of something stronger. Over the cafe's nearly century-long history, quite a few stars, artists, and politicians have visited it; even King Alfonso III himself came here! Remarkably, the establishment never closed even once, not even during the Civil War.
As soon as you pick up the menu, it becomes clear that the selection of spirits here is simply enormous. From time to time, the cafe holds tastings of strong alcohol. It is even added to coffee here. Seasoned travelers recommend trying carajillo - a coffee drink with rum, whiskey, or brandy added (your choice).
In addition, you can buy chocolates with its signature logo at the cafe, which you can then give to friends as sweet souvenirs.
