While exploring the interiors of the Duomo, we recommend paying attention to the following relics and sights of the cathedral:
- The Nail from the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is kept high above the altar, where a small red light can be seen.
- The main altar – the oldest part of the cathedral, still preserved from the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
- The statue of Saint Bartholomew – perhaps the most famous sculpture in the Duomo. It vividly depicts the martyr who was flayed alive.
- The crypt, where the relics of Saint Carlo Borromeo are kept.
- The altar of Saint Agatha and the altar of Saint John Buono. Among the most beautiful in the cathedral.
- The Altar of the Sacred Hearth and the altar of the Virgin of Pontes. There you will find two glass coffins containing the relics of two Milan archbishops – Andrea Carlo Ferrari and Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster.
- The amazingly beautiful Gothic doors of the southern sacristy, created back in the 14th century.
- The Quadroni of Carlo Borromeo – paintings depicting the life and miracles of the saint. They are usually exhibited in the central nave.
- Unique stained-glass windows. Some of them date back to the 15th century!
- The baptistery, where more than one hundred thousand Milanese were baptized.
- The solar meridian, faithfully showing the current month from the 18th century to the present day.
