In honor of the 65th anniversary of the legendary “attack of the century,” the Museum of Naval Glory was opened in Odessa. If you have suddenly forgotten, let us remind you: back then the S-13 submarine under the command of Alexander Marinesko sank the German ship “Wilhelm Gustloff.” There were more than three thousand soldiers and officers on board. As a result, serious damage was inflicted on the enemy.
Most of the exhibition is devoted to the life and feats of the famous Soviet submariner Alexander Ivanovich Marinesko. The initiative to open the museum belonged to the association of Odessa submarine veterans, participants in the Great Patriotic War. The Odessa Regional Council handled the financial matters. The opening ceremony was attended by the consul of the Russian Federation, Andrey Aksenov, and the honor guard drawn from the cadets of the nautical college, which is where the exhibition was actually housed, lent the event a special solemnity.
Very interesting exhibits were donated to the museum as a gift: a model of the S-13 submarine, a model of the M-96 submarine, a medal issued for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the submariner, Hero of the Soviet Union Rear Admiral Kucherenko, a model of a strategic missile submarine cruiser, and many other significant historical items.
